There are three distinct types of live fire shooting range
designs deployed throughout the world.
Indoor Firing Ranges
Outdoor Firing Ranges
Hybrid Firing Ranges
While all of the live fire range designs have numerous
features in common, each has specific needs and con-
cerns that must be addressed to effectively benefit the
range owner, the range users and other stakeholders.
There are two key training environments that can be
applied to each of firing range designs listed above.
Static, or traditional, range layouts and the more
dynamic tactical range formats. Traditional range
designs are for basic weapons handling and target
shooting on stationary target or rail systems. Tactical
shooting ranges accommodate all the capabilities
of static ranges and offer the range owner much more
flexibility within the available physical space.
